Rasgulla is a beloved Indian dessert, especially popular in West Bengal and Odisha. These soft, spongy cheese dumplings are made from chhena (Indian cottage cheese) and cooked in a light sugar syrup until they absorb the sweetness. The name itself comes from the words "ras" (juice) and "gulla" (ball).
There has been a long-standing debate over its origin, with both West Bengal and Odisha claiming it as their own. In fact, both states have received Geographical Indication (GI) tags for their respective versions—Banglar Rosogolla for West Bengal and Odisha Rasagola for Odisha.
